Off the grid, on the money: How Trav came to be
Today marks the start of a new journey. Trav is officially live 🚀.
Trav wasn’t built in a boardroom or a shiny downtown office.
It was built, quite literally, in airport departure lounges, on long-haul flights, and on rattling trains and buses.
It’s the work of two experienced travellers and product people - my partner Kirsty and I - who simply wanted to solve a problem we faced every time we packed our bags.
We wanted to make the most of our travel budget without the stress. We needed a super easy way to log expenses, handle multiple currencies, and keep on top of our travel admin.
We tried a bunch of products out there. But we found they tended to be slow, hard to use, or just didn’t give us the insights we needed to be proactive with our money.
Spreadsheets are great for planning, but they aren't great for travelling.
So, we built the co-pilot we wanted.
We wanted something that let us track spending and convert currency even when we were miles from a WiFi signal. Off the grid. On the money.
We wanted to know our "safe to spend" daily limit instantly, so we could enjoy that extra special meal or day trip without having to worry about running short later.
The result is something we love using. It’s been battle-tested on our own adventures, and we hope other travellers will get as much value out of it as we do.
It is super fast, super intuitive, and built to work on any device - whether you’re on your mobile in a tuk-tuk or planning on your desktop at home.
This is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more features coming down the pipeline.
We’d also love to hear from you. If you’re a traveller with ideas on how we can make Trav even better, please get in touch.
To the road ahead.
For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move. - Robert Louis Stevenson
